Day 1
(Arrival Day)
Welcome to the Napa Valley! Your best bet when arriving to SFO or OAK airports is to take Evans Transportation to the Napa Valley. The Evans shuttle will provide drop-off at your hotel.
You'll stop by Napa Valley Bike Tours this afternoon to check-in and ensure the bikes we have reserved for you are fitted and equipped to your needs and ready for your first bike tour tomorrow. Depending on your arrival time, you may even have time to take them out for a spin around town. Or, we can steer you to some nearby attractions.
Hotel check-in in Yountville will be sometime between 3 and 4 p.m. Your dinner reservation will be at one of Napa Valley's top-rated restaurants. *Note that due to variations in arrival schedules, your dinner tonight will be private (not with the group).
Day 2
You'll begin the morning with a Kick-Off Breakfast, hosted by your tour guides at a local cafe in town. You'll get to meet and chat with the other travelers on this trip and discuss the finer details of your itinerary.
After breakfast, we'll begin our journey by cycling through the Carneros wine-growing region of the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, world-famous for its white wine varietals and light reds. The Carneros region also offers picturesque views of undulating hills lined with vineyards and punctuated by idyllic farmhouses. At one of our early winery stops, the panoramic view extends as far as San Francisco. Today's available routes include 20-, 35- and 45-mile options.
Tonight's accommodations will be on the historic plaza in downtown Sonoma. And we'll enjoy dinner as a group at one of the great nearby restaurants.
Day 3
After breakfast, we will pick up where we left off, starting in beautiful Sonoma Valley. Today’s route options will take us from Sonoma all the way out to the Pacific coastal town of Bodega Bay. We’ll cycle through scenic farmland lined with eucalyptus trees and then slowly start to see the famous coastal redwoods before finally reaching Bodega Bay. All of today’s routing options (22-, 54- and 62-miles) will include some rolling hills. And cyclists looking for a challenge need only ask, as we can provide a mountaneous route map that's sure to satisfy your inner-Lance.
After settling into our Bodega Bay hotels, the group will reconvene for dinner again tonight at yet another fabulous restaurant.
Day 4
After breakfast today, everyone will cycle 10 miles up the Pacific coastline before heading inland along Russian River, which will ultimately lead us back to the wine country. Today’s routes feature relatively flat terrain with 25-, 40-, and 62-mile options to our next destination, Healdsburg. We’ll stop at the historic Korbel Champagne Cellars for lunch.
Accommodations tonight are in Healdsburg, which has become a hip destination town in recent years. With so many great restaurants to choose from - all within walking distance of our hotel - dinner tonight will be "On your own."
3-3-3 Wine & Waves guests will depart this afternoon. We will provide drop off at a local rental car office or the nearby SFO airport shuttle pick-up location. *Note: This shuttle ONLY provides service to SFO.
Day 5
Today you'll enjoy a day of wine tasting and education, with the Dry Creek region west of Healdsburg as our classroom. You'll pedal 3-5 miles between each wine-tasting stop and a catered picnic lunch will be served overlooking the vineyards mid-day.
After lunch, with about 18 miles of cycling under your belt, you'll have the option to call it a day and ride in the van to Yountville. Hardy souls are invited to soldier on all the way to tonight's destination for a total of 63 miles (moderately challenging terrain).
Yountville has been billed as the culinary epicenter of the Napa Valley, with four Michelin star-rated restaurants within a few blocks of each other. So naturally, this will be an ideal location for our "Farewell Dinner."
But don't get ahead of yourself... We still have one more day of riding tomorrow!
Day 6 *Departure Day
You'll make the most of your final day by exploring some of Napa Valley's famous boutique wineries.
We invite cyclists with a competitive spirit to wake up a bit early this morning to take on our "Oakville Grade Challenge." Every town has its fabled climbs, and this one-mile gut-wrencher is a local favorite. Everyone who "Makes the Grade" (without stopping!) will earn a special T-shirt along with the obvious bragging rights, of course!
Those who don't feel the need to satisfy their ego, are welcome to sleep in this morning and join us after the torture-fest for a casual bike tour of Napa Valley's famed wineries. We'll focus on the Oakville and Stag's Leap Districts and stop at 2-3 wineries along the way.
We'll arrive back at our shop by about 2 p.m. this afternoon to say our farewells and send you on your way. Again, your best choice for returning to either SFO or OAK airports will be Evans Transportation.
