SELF-GUIDED BIKE TOURS

TOUR OVERVIEW

Even diehard “do-it-yourselfers” should consider a few important logistics before deciding to rent bikes and tour totally unsupported.

For starters, Napa Valley is a protected Agricultural Preserve and as such, the wineries within this pristine area are prohibited from serving or selling food outside of the context of an educational food-and-wine pairing experience. You will also find that delis and markets are few and far between within the Ag Preserve, which is no big deal when the next town is only a 15-min drive away, but something to consider when planning an all-day excursion by bike. On any one of our signature routes, there is generally just one deli along the way; as you might imagine, it’s not unusual to encounter a 30-minute wait (or longer) to have sandwiches made-to-order at these relative oases.

And if you’re planning to purchase wine during your bike ride, carrying it while biking can pose another obstacle. Even if you bring a backpack, you’ll risk damaging your prized finds by exposing them to heat.

With all this in mind, you can improve your experience exponentially by choosing a Self-Guided Bike Tour. You’ll still pedal at your own pace, stopping at wineries you’ve chosen to visit (we can help if you need suggestions!); but, you’ll enjoy the added conveniences of having your wine purchases picked up for you and a delicious box picnic lunch delivered to a winery* with a picnic area along your route or a local park with shaded picnic tables. *Wine tasting appointment required when you will be picnicking onsite at a winery.

It’s the fool-proof way to pull off a perfect day of biking to wineries “on your own” – with just the right amount of support!

» Should We Book a Self-Guided Tour or Just Rent Bikes?
A Self-Guided Bike Tour is a bike rental package that includes two key enhancements over a bike rental: 1) A delicious box picnic lunch (which we can deliver to a winery along your route) and 2) Wine-purchase pickup service. The value of these additional features depends upon whether you’d like to enjoy a picnic at a winery (especially when you realize that wineries are not permitted to sell/serve food themselves) and whether you plan to purchase wine and might benefit from the wine purchase pickup service.
