TOUR OVERVIEW

One of the most unique things to do in Napa Valley is take a bike tour that allows you to go off-road and literally through the vineyards! These off-road vineyard routes are most definitely not open to the public, making this tour an absolutely unique adventure that is not to be missed!

On this tour, you’ll venture to the Carneros AVA, a region that is as famous for its picture postcard views as it is for its milder-climate varietals such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. With a casual biking pace and frequent stops, the emphasis is on enjoying the scenery and learning about the vineyard growth cycle in an immersive way. You’ll pedal an average of 2-4 miles between stops; the total amount of riding on this tour is less than 10 miles. The riding is mostly flat and a mix of about 70% on quiet country roads (like this) and 30% off-road riding through the vineyards. Most of the off-road riding is on wide dirt roads between blocks of vineyards, so rest assured you don’t need to be an experienced mountain biker by any stretch; however, off-road riding is inherently bumpy compared to riding on paved roads, so this tour is best suited for reasonably confident bike riders.

Note: Our guided bike tours are adult-oriented and wine-focused and intended for guests age 21+.

SOME OF THE WINERIES WE VISIT

Bouchaine Vineyards

Bouchaine Vineyards is the oldest continuously operating winery in the Carneros District, first planted in late-1880s. In 1981, a partnership that included current owners, Gerret and Tatiana Copeland, purchased the property from then-owner Beringer. At the time, only a few winemaking pioneers realized the potential for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Carneros. Today the philosophy behind Bouchaine’s wines emphasizes the expression of the fruit and the terroir of the Carneros over the wine-making process.

Starmont Winery

Starmont Winery occupies a 50-acre portion of the historic Stanly Ranch property, which was first planted with vineyards in 1872. Honoring the heritage of the vineyard, Starmont has constructed a state-of-the-art “green” winery with a strong commitment to sustainable farming and wine production processes. Having begun as a single Chardonnay wine, the Starmont portfolio now encompasses the best of Carneros and Napa Valley with the addition of Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé wines.

Starmont Winery

Most Cycling IN the Vineyards tours will include visits to both Bouchaine Vineyards and Starmont Winery, where we have special permission to ride off-road through the vineyards. On rare occasions when one of these wineries is unavailable to host us, we will visit another great local winery in the Carneros District. Some of our favorites include Liana Estates, McKenzie-Mueller, Ceja Vineyards and Etude.
